Eric Smit obtained his degree in economics at Radboud University in Nijmegen, after which he started his career in business. In 1999, however, he made the remarkable switch to the editorial staff of the influential magazine Quote. Within this publication, he used his skills as an investigative journalist and later rose to the position of deputy editor-in-chief. At the end of 2009, Eric Smit joined forces with Mark Koster and Arne van der Wal to found “Follow the Money”, a platform that focuses on financial and general investigative journalism. He takes his audience into the intriguing world of investigative journalism. His career started at renowned magazines such as Quote and De Pers, where he wrote several books. On top of that, he is one of the founders and writers of the platform for investigative journalism called “Follow the Money.” In 2017, he was awarded Journalist of the Year for his collaboration with a colleague on a series of revealing articles about the former VVD chairman, Henry Keizer. Smit shares his insights regarding the challenges that his profession entails, the practical detective work that is required, and how he ultimately managed to not only be successful in this, but also achieve financial prosperity.
